My
correspondent and I had typical polite and friendly exchanges to begin with. Then he wrote that he
was in solitary confinement and asked me to send him "movie mags" like People, etc. I looked for used magazines but didn't
find much.
Inspiration hit. I sent him a few copies of Immortal
Bliss with a note explaining that I was not trying to convert him
but hoped that he would find them a gift.
He responded with vigorous enthusiasm! He
had also received his first book about Amma.
Ever since, he has been positively gushing with "God" talk.
Every letter includes a poem that he
has written or copied. His poems are quite good,
so good that I can hardly believe he wrote them. There is a very special consciousness coming through, VERY different
than his writing otherwise. He writes
about God so beautifully, unlike anything I have ever seen, so genuinely "God" centered. It is like
someone who is celebrating from deep
within. I encouraged him to publish them in the prison newsletter. There is no prison newsletter, but he
is talking with the Chaplain about publishing
in a church newsletter!
